Who We Are:
- The largest health region in the province, serving 291,000 local residents in more than 100 cities, towns, villages, RMs and First Nation communities
- A provincial referral centre providing specialized care to thousands of people from across Saskatchewan
- An integrated health delivery agency providing a comprehensive range of services and programs including but not limited to hospital and long term care, public health and home care, mental health and addiction services, prenatal and palliative care
- Services and programs provided in more than 75 facilities, including 10 hospitals (including three tertiary hospitals in Saskatoon), 29 long term care facilities, and numerous primary health care sites, public health centres, mental health and addictions centres, and community-based settings
- An academic health sciences centre, taking part health education and research for the benefit of the province as a whole
- Largest employer in the province with more than 12,000 registered nurses and other health care service and support workers and managers
- Providing training opportunities to more than 2000 health sciences students
- Supported by more than 8,000 registered volunteers
- More than 270 research studies in progress within the health region
Budget:
- 2008-09 annual operating budget of $744 million, equivalent to spending $2 million a day meeting the health needs of the community
- 95% of operating budget is provided by funding from Saskatchewan Health
- 63.5% of operating budget is spent on hospital services, 19.5% on long term and supportive care, 10% on community-based/public health/home care services, 5% on program support and administration, and 2% on ancillary and special funded programs
- Approximately 77% of annual budget is spent on salaries and benefits, with staff receiving paycheques every two weeks totalling more than $10 million
