Strengthening Rural Communities: Rural Health Strategy 2010
Saskatoon Health Region is a large and complex organization comprising many diverse environments, one of which is its rural environment. This strategy focuses attention on the diverse and unique health needs of the 80,000 people or 27 per cent of the Region’s population residing outside of Saskatoon. Saskatoon Health Region has developed this strategy with the objective of strengthening its rural services and improving the health and well being of its rural residents.
The Region’s 2007-10 strategic plan established the development of a rural health strategy as a key strategic goal within one of the plan’s key strategic directions, that being “Building a Sustainable Integrated Health System”. To date, Saskatoon Health Region has not had a comprehensive plan to guide its decisions and provide direction with respect to the delivery of health services to its rural residents.
Strengthening Rural Communities: Saskatoon Health Region’s Rural Health Strategy 2010 identifies the significant challenges which impact the health of rural residents and makes a number of recommendations to address these challenges.
