January 2009 - Why change?
From 'A Minute with Maura', published January 26, 2009 in e-connect
As we make these changes, it is important to remind ourselves, why are we doing this? There are many reasons, but let’s start with our patients and their families. They acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our nurses, doctors, therapists and other staff, but they want us to do better. They want us to demonstrate through all our behaviours with patients, families and colleagues, that we are truly living our core values of respect, collaboration, compassion, excellence and stewardship. Our patients tell us that we need to improve access and coordination of care. They want more information and involvement in determining their treatment plan. Their concerns also involve the efficiency and safety of our care. They expect us to wisely use the more than $2 million of tax payer money that Saskatoon Health Region needs to operate every day.
