We are pleased to present the 2007-2010 Saskatoon Health Region Strategic Plan. Recognizing that many competing priorities face the Region, we developed the plan to provide a clearer picture of where we must focus to meet the future health needs of individuals and our communities. This plan reflects what you told us you Imagine for Our Health, Our Future. It demonstrates a commitment to our renewed vision of “Healthiest people, healthiest communities, exceptional service,” and reaffirms our mission to provide excellent service, education, and research. It also speaks to the core values that emerged during our consultations when people told us what they believe is important: respect, compassion, excellence, stewardship, and collaboration.
Consistent with the provincial Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care, this plan reflects what more than 1,500 staff, physicians, communities, the public, and external partners say is important to meet the needs of individuals, families, and communities.
Your feedback has enabled us to develop a plan we can be proud of, that sets priorities, and represents the will of our organization and our partners to move forward in five key strategic directions. We developed these directions from what our stakeholders told us is important and by analyzing in detail our broader environment, including projected population changes, risks related to the increasing burden of illness and chronic diseases, and our changing workforce.
These directions emphasize a need to transform the care and service experience for patients, clients, and residents by putting individuals, from infants to seniors, and their families at the centre of their care. They reflect our commitment to transform the work experience in this Health Region so that staff pride in their work grows. They challenge us to work together to effectively address the gaps in health status within our Health Region, with a focus on our Aboriginal population. The directions strongly embrace an environment that fosters research, learning, and innovation. And, ultimately, these directions demonstrate our collective commitment to ensure a sustainable and more integrated health care system for future generations.
While there will be challenges in the future, we believe that by clearly articulating our priorities and by working together we can achieve our three-year goals.
A sincere thank you to all who helped us create and “imagine” this plan and our future. We look forward to working with you to achieve our goals and, over time, attain our vision.
