The Position: This position is a specialist consultant in child and adolescent psychology. The primary duties of the incumbent are to provide expert advice and consultation to mental health professionals working in the Heartland, Prairie North and Saskatoon Health Regions. This position will be located in Saskatoon. The incumbent provides expert clinical psychological services to children and/or youth and their families. As well, the successful candidate will provide consultation to other clinicians and child/youth serving agencies, and mentoring/supervision of psychologists.
The Person: To qualify for this position you require the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Doctoral Degree in Psychology.
- Registered or eligible for Registration as a Doctoral Psychologist by the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, with Authorized Practice Endorsement.
- At least 5 years post-doctoral degree experience in a mental health setting.
- Expert knowledge of normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology. Extensive knowledge of family systems.
- Experience in clinical assessment and diagnosis of children and adolescents using DSMIV classifications.
- Extensive experience in providing therapeutic intervention appropriate to the treatment of children's/adolescent's mental health concerns and other family problems, including expert knowledge of research and best practice literature.
- Knowledge of, and experience, utilizing standardized psychometric instruments and a wide range of evidence based measures typically used with children and youth.
- Knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques appropriate to an aboriginal/multicultural population.
- Demonstrated skills in mentoring, training and clinically supervising child and adolescent clinical psychologists and related disciplines.
- Ability to develop and maintain consulting relationships within a multi-disciplinary team, interagency programs, across regions and across the community of human resources.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and independently to manage complex and multiple demands.
- Demonstrated skill in providing public education and inservice training related to the mental health of children, youth and their families.
- Demonstrated ability in the area of research and resource development.
- Sound written and oral communication skills.
NOTE: preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS collective agreement.
