THE POSITION: The Medical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor (HLA Position) (J.J.E. #134) supervises technical staff and work processes of assigned disciplines of a laboratory. Performs laboratory duties associated with the detection, prevention, and management of physiological and pathological conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical Laboratory Technology diploma.
- Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.
- Licensed and registered by the Saskatchewan Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists.
- Forty-eight (48) months previous discipline-related experience to consolidate knowledge and skills, with a basic knowledge of other disciplines within the department.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Valid drivers license, where required by the job.
PLEASE NOTE: If we do not receive applicants with the above qualifications, we will consider applicants with the following qualifications:
- Certified as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists(ASCP)
- Certified by American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) at the Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) or Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) level or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of proven supervisory experience in an HLA Laboratory.
ACTIVITIES & ABILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE SASKATOON HEALTH REGION:
- Proven project management and leadership skills.
- Proven supervisory and financial management skills.
- Lead the re-design of the HLA laboratory processes and procedures to meet ASHI Accreditation.
- Possess advanced and up-to-date knowledge and technical skills in human histocompatibility, transplantation immunodiagnostics, including DNA based testing, emerging methodologies, complex testing, HLA method development and quality management.
- Be committed to obtaining certification as a Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) through ASHI (American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics).
- Establish, maintain and monitor HLA Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs as required by provincial, national and ASHI regulations.
