(SASKATOON) March 29, 2001 --
Two SDH occupational rehabilitation programs will be recognized
for excellence by an international accreditation organization today.
FIT for Active Living and Kinetik, both inter-disciplinary programs
located at Saskatoon City Hospital, successfully underwent the rigorous
review process necessary to receive accreditation from the U.S.-based
Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
The programs received full endorsement of a three-year accreditation-the
highest level of accreditation available.
"SDH is very pleased that the innovative and professional
efforts of our staff have been recognized by this internationally
recognized accreditation process. The comments from the accreditors
are very positive and most helpful in validating our program initiatives,"
says Brian Morgan, Vice President, SDH.
FIT for Active Living is an innovative rehabilitation program designed
to help people who have sustained musculo-skeletal injuries in motor
vehicle accidents. It is funded by contract through SGI.
Kinetik provides assessment and treatment to individuals who have
injuries or illnesses that compromise their ability to function
in the workplace and at home. Its primary mandate is disability
management. The program receives funding from a number of sources
on a fee-for-service basis.
The accreditation award is a signal to our community that these
SDH programs and services have met consumer-focused, state-of-the-art,
international standards of performance.
"Preparing for accreditation challenged our programs to be
clear about the processes used in the provision of care and to make
these processes visible and sustainable. It was a valuable quality
improvement mechanism," said Stuart Hutton, Acting General
Manager of Rehabilitation. He said the accreditation process was
finalized last summer.
A Kinetik satellite site was set up last April at Lloydminster
to assist in meeting the needs of that regional population. The
site was also granted full three-year accreditation.
Media are invited to attend the official presentation of the accreditation
award today at 3:00 p.m., FIT Centre, 8th Floor, Saskatoon City
Hospital.
