(SASKATOON) Thursday, April 7, 2005 - Twelve hours of continuous broadcasting by Saskatoon’s six private radio stations has taken the Royal Care Campaign to its halfway mark - $7.5 million.
Saskatoon Radio Care Day raised $683,729, an achievement accomplished by the cooperative spirit of CJWW, Magic 98.3, Hot 93, C95, 650 CKOM, and Rock 102.
"These companies lead by example," said Ron Waldman, Chair of the RUH Foundation Board of Directors. "Their cooperative approach to making a difference in our community obviously inspired others to take action for the greater good.
"We are very grateful to these stations, their owners and employees, and to all those in the community who made a donation to Royal Care," he said.
All funds raised by Saskatoon Radio Care Day for Royal University Hospital will go to support upgrades and renovations to Critical Care services, a designation that will enhance patient-care.
Hundreds of individuals, including students, seniors, and small businesses, made donations throughout the day to Royal Care as radio listeners heard stories about RUH from former patients, hospital staff, and major donors.
Several major donors announced their gift to support Critical Care services:
• The Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon - $100,000
• The RUH Auxiliary - $85,000
• MacPherson, Leslie & Tyerman - $65,000
• Saskatchewan Blue Cross - $50,000
• Scotiabank - $50,000
• The Great Western Brewing Company - $50,000
• Deloitte - $25,000
• Jhugarama - $21,000.
All proceeds will be used to support the upgrade and renovations of Emergency, Coronary Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Rooms, and Recovery.
The Royal Care Campaign will invest $15 million in research, training, and patient-care to attract and retain leading medical professionals to the province.
