(SASKATOON) June 13, 2005 – Saskatoon Regional Health Authority (SRHA) is pleased to announce that Maura Davies begins her role today as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Saskatoon Health Region (SHR).
"We are extremely fortunate to have Ms. Davies at the helm of our organization, which is one of the most complex and integrated health delivery systems in Canada," says Darlene Eberle, Chairperson, SRHA. "She has the Authority’s full confidence in managing the province’s largest health region and largest employer with over 11,000 staff and 750 physicians, with an annual budget of over $600 million."
Ms. Davies plans to be very visible not only throughout the organization but in the community as well. Her immediate plans are to begin meeting with the SRHA members, senior leaders in the Health Region, and staff located in both urban and rural areas of the Health Region. She also plans to meet with Health Region partners and business and community leaders throughout the region.
"I’m very pleased to be officially ‘on the job’ and am looking forward to really getting to know this Health Region – our physicians and health care staff who deliver services, and the residents who make up the communities throughout the region, those we are here to serve," says Ms. Davies. “I have been very touched by the welcome extended to me and I’m anxious to get involved as an active citizen of this beautiful city and surrounding area."
Ms. Davies has over 30 years experience in health care. She began her health care career as a dietitian and has held a number of senior administrative positions in Nova Scotia, most recently as Vice President of Planning and Performance for Capital Health District. She is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Health Services Executives and has a Master of Health Services Administration degree from Dalhousie University. She is an adjunct professor in the master of Health Services Administration program at Dalhousie and was a lecturer in the program from 1994 to 2002. She has given many presentations across the country and authored publications on patient safety, workplace health, ethics, system integration, and performance measurement. Ms. Davies has built a strong national profile through her work with the Canadian College of Health Services Executives, the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, and the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. Ms. Davies is married to Dr. Arthur Davies and has two sons, who live in Boston and Montreal.
