December 15, 2005, Humboldt – A visioning session to help stakeholders better understand the processes that will take place over the next two years as the Humboldt Health Services Redevelopment Project progresses toward completion was held Friday December 9th in Humboldt. This session was led by Keith Henry, of Friggstad Downing Henry Architects, and James Orlikow and Andrew Brimble of LM Architectural Group.
In attendance for the visioning session were 32 stakeholders including representatives from Saskatoon Regional Health Authority, Saskatoon Health Region, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Board, staff, City of Humboldt, the Humboldt area rural municipalities, and Action Humboldt.
James Orlikow of LM Architectural Group led participants through a Power Point presentation illustrating the manner in which the project would unfold, as well as some of the key factors in making the process move forward as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Some of the phases that project will go through were discussed including the initiation phase, schematic design, design development, contract and document phases, as well as tendering, and construction phases.
The project overview was then discussed. The group was shown an overview of how a project such as the Humboldt Health Services Redevelopment would evolve with examples from the recently constructed sites of the Gimli Community Health Centre, a 50,000 square foot redevelopment of the existing Gimli Hospital to create an "Integrated Community Health Centre", and the Boundary Trails Health Centre at Morden, Manitoba, a new two storey, 120,000 square foot regional health centre. A small group of from the Humboldt project recently toured these two facilities to gain insight into the latest design efficiencies. The Humboldt facility will be an 87,000 square foot structure
Wrapping up the visioning session, was a question and answer session. The architects then thanked everyone for their participation in the beginning of this significant replacement project.
