November 17, 2005, Saskatoon – On behalf of the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority and the nurses, doctors, support services staff, managers and volunteers who provide care and service, Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) is releasing its 2005 Report to the Community on Sunday, November 20.
"SHR has a proud story to tell," says SHR Chief Operating Officer, Maura Davies. "In the 20-page publication, readers will be introduced to more than three dozen caring, compassionate, innovative and excellence-driven professionals and the work they do to improve the health of individuals and our communities. Readers will also hear from a number of our patients and clients, who are the reason for the Health Region’s existence."
Inside the Report to the Community, among the many people the report features, readers will meet:
- a dynamic and creative researcher who has greatly improved the quality and nutrition of long-term care meals;
- a detoxification professional who has developed a powerful and innovative program to help chronic substance abusers take the first step toward healing;
- a multidisciplinary team of care givers who bring education and empowerment to patients waiting for knee and hip replacement surgery to ensure the best possible outcomes;
- a new Licenced Practical Nurse who graduated from one of the new Aboriginal nurse training programs now underway.
The report will appear in the Sunday Sun, Strasbourge Last Mountain Times, East Central Connection and the Wadena News, covering the entirely of the region’s boundaries. It will also be available next week on our website at http://www.saskatoonhealthregion.ca/about_us/about_us.htm
Each day, more than $1.6 million is spent on meeting the health needs of the approximately 300,000 people living in more than 100 cities, towns, villages, rural municipalities and First Nations communities in the region. Each year, thousands more people from throughout the province come to Saskatoon for specialized care.
As an academic health sciences centre, SHR works collaboratively with a number of educational institutions, colleges and departments. Each year, the Health Region provides learning opportunities for hundreds of health sciences students and participates in research that will build knowledge and improve care.
Working in partnership, the Health Region strives to improve the health and well-being of individuals and our communities by building on excellence in consumer-centred service, education and research.
