(SASKATOON September 20, 2005) – Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) and St. Paul’s Hospital (Grey Nuns) Saskatoon, owned by Saskatchewan Catholic Health Corporation (SCHC) will renew their working relationship agreement for another 10 years. St. Paul’s Hospital Board approved the new agreement at the August 29, 2005 Board meeting. Saskatoon Regional Health Authority gave their approval to the agreement today.
"We are both excited about the opportunity to continue this wonderful partnership between St. Paul’s Hospital and Saskatoon Health Region," says Brenda FitzGerald, President and CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital.
"Through this very integrated, interdependent partnership we work together to best serve patient needs as we continue to build on excellence," adds Maura Davies, President and CEO of Saskatoon Health Region.
The agreement previously consisted of an Affiliation Agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding and Guiding Principles. The new agreements have now evolved into a Partnership Agreement and a Funding Agreement.
The partnership will see St. Paul’s Hospital continue to provide health care from a faith based perspective.
"St. Paul’s Hospital brings its experience in health care from a faith based perspective, as well as strong leadership experience in ethics and ethical reflection. St. Paul’s also brings an additional perspective to Saskatoon Health Region in a governance and Senior Leadership role," says Darlene Eberle, SRHA chair.
St. Paul’s Hospital Board is responsible to the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority, through the Partnership Committee of the two governing bodies for the governance and management of the following care groups and services: Pre-hospital and Emergency Services, Laboratory Services, Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Services, Palliative Care Services, Renal Services, Mental Health and Addiction Services, Pharmaceutical Services and Spiritual Care and Volunteer Services. All other care groups, departments and services are directly governed and managed by the Saskatoon Health Region.
"This partnership is based on leadership not location," says Rod Donlevy, St. Paul’s Hospital Board Chairperson. "This is evident when you look at Laboratory Services for instance, although located at a number of sites throughout Saskatoon Health Region, Laboratory Services is governed and managed by St. Paul’s Hospital on behalf of SHR, whereas a care group such as Surgery Services offered at St. Paul’s Hospital is governed and managed by Saskatoon Health Region."
This partnership is highly integrated and highly interdependent. The President and CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital is a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the Saskatoon Health Region. There is only one management structure. One Senior Leadership Team serves both Saskatoon Regional Health Authority and St. Paul’s Hospital.
Saskatoon Health Region is one of the most integrated and complex health delivery agencies in Canada. SHR is the largest Health Region in Saskatchewan, with a staff of over 11,000 members and 750 physicians serving close to 300,000 residents in more than 100 towns, cities and rural municipalities.
