SASKATOON, December 20 2005 – BMO Financial Group has announced a major gift of $150,000 to Royal University Hospital in support of their campaign to renovate and modernize the hospital’s emergency services which handle approximately 50,000 patients a year.
The Royal Care campaign includes the Critical Care Centre areas of Emergency, Pediatric Emergency, Coronary Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Operating Rooms and Recovery, and is being planned in cooperation with the provincial Department of Health and the Saskatoon Health Region.
The donation brings the Royal Care total to over $10.75 million; the Campaign goal is to raise $15 million for research, training, and patient care at RUH.
"Our donation to Royal University Hospital is further proof of our commitment to supporting and strengthening health care services that are provided to all citizens in Saskatchewan," said Ken Segboer, Vice President, Saskatchewan for BMO Bank of Montreal. Segboer made the donation announcement at the Barenaked Ladies Storyteller’s Dinner, held prior to a concert by this Canadian band. The dinner, sponsored by BMO Bank of Montreal in support of Royal Care, raised an additional $25,000 for Royal Care.
"The bottom line is that no one ever wants to use the services of a hospital, especially critical care services, but when the need arises it's reassuring to know that access to excellent medical care is ready and available," said Tom McClocklin, Chair of the RUH Foundation Board of Directors. “We are very grateful to BMO for embracing the spirit of giving to the health-care needs of our community," added Mr. McClocklin.
RUH has experienced a steady increase in the number of patients accessing specialized services. This has led to crowded conditions, not only in Emergency but all critical care areas. As recognition of the donation, BMO Financial Group will have its name on a "Family Room", where families will find comfort, privacy and peace of mind.
Since 1817, BMO Financial Group has supported the principles of community reinvestment and corporate and social responsibility to the communities it serves.
BMO Financial Group contributed $37.9 million in corporate donations, sponsorships and events in 2005, supporting thousands of communities, charities and not-for-profit organizations in Canada and the USA. BMO Bank of Montreal has 29 branches, two northern outlets and more than 350 employees in Saskatchewan.
