SASKATOON December 23, 2005– The Health Show returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. on Shaw TV, Channel 10. The new season, begins with a look back at some of the best features from last year including segments on hearing loss, family caregivers coping with the mental loss of a loved one; self-care tips for the family caregiver; the importance of wearing a mouth guard while playing sports; the ‘Healthiest Babies Possible’ program; the ‘Road to Well-being’ mental health program; a quality health improvement initiative on advanced access to primary health care and a physical activity segment.
The Health Show’s first live broadcast of the new season will be January 11 at 7 p.m. on Shaw TV, Channel 10. New to this year’s season will be a focus on mental health – with a new ‘in e-motion’ segment that will provide tips on emotional health and a special edition on mental health. Our ‘Doctor on Call’ segment returns this season but will alternate between two family physicians and a psychiatrist.
The first live show will have features on a new program called ‘Dining with Dignity’ for long term care residents; ADAPT (arthritis, diet, activity, pain and therapy) -- a program that helps people improve their health and well being while waiting for elective hip or knee surgery; prenatal maternity tests; a physical activity segment and a live call-in segment with our “Doctor on Call.”
The Health Show, a three-time provincial award-winning series produced by Saskatoon Health Region and Shaw TV, provides viewers with information on medical research, healthy lifestyles, health promotion, illness and injury prevention, health services and programs, health news updates, active living tips and a call-in segment with a family physician.
During the past four seasons, almost 500 local health care professionals and community members have been interviewed in over 50 half-hour episodes highlighting various services and programs provided by the Health Region.
Besides airing on Shaw TV in Saskatoon every Wednesday and every other Sunday at 7 p.m., The Health Show is also carried by Shaw's sister stations in Prince Albert, Swift Current and Moose Jaw as well Regina's cable provider, Access. The Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) also airs The Health Show on cable Channel 7 in Saskatoon and Channel 9 in Prince Albert, and on digital satellite Channel 453 Express Vu, Channel 352 Star Choice, Channel 19 SaskTel Max.
