(SASKATOON) June 27, 2005 – Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) has successfully recruited a new pediatric surgeon for our community through a joint recruitment process with the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine. Dr. Saeed Awan is due to arrive in Saskatoon with his family on August 12th and will begin his duties shortly thereafter.
Dr. Awan completed his Royal College Certification Training in the United Kingdom. Following that he acquired extensive experience as a pediatric surgeon in six separate recognized teaching hospitals in the UK and Ireland. Dr. Awan also served as a consultant pediatric surgeon in Saudi Arabia for three years before relocating to St. John’s, Newfoundland where he completed his Canadian residency training in pediatric surgery.
"We welcome Dr. Awan and his family to Saskatoon," says Dr. Barry Maber, Physician Services Vice President for SHR. "Pediatric surgeons can generally go work anywhere in the world, and his choosing to come to Saskatoon is a testament to the good work that is currently being done by Dr. Grant Miller, who has been acting as the single pediatric surgeon in Saskatchewan," Maber adds.
