SASKATOON, June 8, 2006 – Four physicians, each having served Saskatoon Health Region for 50 years, are among more than 1,000 staff and physicians being honoured this month in service recognition events across the region.
Being honoured for 50 years of service are Dr. Fred Cenaiko, Dr. Harry Emson, Dr. Colin Smith and Dr. Helen Flegel. Being honoured for 45 years of service are Dr. Ivan Jen and Dr. Donald Greve.
Celebrated honourees work in all aspects of health care provision in rural and urban centres throughout the region including long-term care facilities, numerous community based services, and in the10 hospitals within Saskatoon Health Region,
"This year 1,026 recipients throughout Saskatoon Health Region celebrate milestone anniversaries of ten or more years of service to health care. Collectively, these staff and physicians contribute almost 19, 000 years of knowledge, experience and dedication," says Darlene Eberle, Chairperson, Saskatoon Regional Health Authority.
Honourees, from communities throughout the health region, also include:
- Seven employees with 40 years of service
- 15 employees with 35 years of service
- 76 employees with 30 years of service
- 199 employees with 25 years of service
- 200 employees with 20 years of service
- 269 employees with 15 years of service
- 254 employees with 10 years of service
The 8th Annual Muriel Jarvis Award was presented to Noella Leydon, Director, Food and Nutrition Services, Saskatoon Health Region. The Muriel Jarvis Award was established in 1998 by the Authority to celebrate a Saskatoon Health Region or affiliated agency staff member who exemplifies "Making a positive difference in the lives of others."
