(Thursday, June 15, 2006) Saskatoon – Four project teams received awards, while nine additional teams received recognition, during the first annual Saskatoon Health Region Quality Awards today. The prestigious, new awards are modeled on the 3M Health Care Quality Team Award which is a national award presented annually at the Canadian College of Health Services Executives conference.
"The Saskatoon Health Region Quality Award represents the highest honour bestowed upon a professional or a team in health care. Each recipient recognized today fulfills the promise we make to our patients and our community every day in the Health Region – to exceed our best. These professionals are our heroes," says Maura Davies, Saskatoon Health Region President and Chief Executive Officer.
Saskatoon Health Region Quality Awards provide opportunities for innovative approaches to quality improvement within the Saskatoon Health Region, to be recognized at the national level. The top four initiatives selected for a regional Quality Award were then entered in the national 3M Quality Award competition. These initiatives include Detecting Adverse Events and Minimizing Harm in Critically Ill Patients; Baby-Friendly Initiative; Parkridge Centre Community Meal Service; inmotion: The Health Promotion Strategy.
"Our four national nominees can take great pride in their accomplishments, and while we did not receive an award this year, I’m confident our quality improvement program will bring national and international attention to our successes in the future," Davies emphasizes.
Thirteen submissions were received and evaluated by a panel of six individuals selected from the Saskatoon Health Region Quality Council and the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority. Evaluation of submissions was based on the following five-category framework: issue statement; team leadership; information and analysis; implementation; and outcomes.
