September 14, 2006, HUMBOLDT – A new inclined chairlift, recently installed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt, is making life easier for patients and visitors wanting to use the main entrance of the hospital.
The Humboldt Good Neighbour Store in Humboldt generously provided the funds to purchase the new chairlift. The chair features a 90 degree swivel seat, padded fold-up arm rests, a folding foot rest and numerous safety features including obstruction sensing under-pan safeties.
"We have been concerned for some time that access to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is very limited and difficult for many of our patients and for many members of the public as well," says Shirley McNeil, Interim CEO of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. "We sincerely appreciate the more than $7,500 donation by the Humboldt Good Neighbour Store that made the purchase and installation of this lift possible."
"We realize that with the Humboldt Health Services Redevelopment Project underway that the requirement for such a lift at the hospital is short-term," adds McNeil. "However, we are certain that the chairlift could easily be moved and installed in some other community facility when it is no longer needed at St. Elizabeth’s, sharing the Good Neighbour Store’s generosity with yet another recipient."
The Good Neighbour Store is run by volunteers and one paid manager. The store collects gently used items for resale, and with the profits from the resale of these items, the Good Neighbour Store provides grants to give back to the surrounding communities. Through an application process, the Board of Directors of the Good Neighbour Store grants funding to projects that will benefit communities as a whole.
