(October 18, 2006), Saskatoon – Today, the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority approved Saskatoon Health Region's new three-year strategic plan. The strategic plan, which covers January 2007 to March 2010, outlines a renewed vision, mission, and values for the Health Region. It also includes five strategic directions along with specific goals and measurable targets for each.
"Recognizing that many competing priorities face the Region, we developed the plan to provide a clearer picture of where we must focus to meet the health needs of individuals and our communities," says Darlene Eberle, Chair, Saskatoon Regional Health Authority. "Consistent with the provincial Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care, this plan reflects what more than 1,500 staff, physicians, external partners and general public say are important to meet the current and future health needs of individuals, families and communities."
The renewed vision, "Healthiest people, healthiest communities, exceptional service", sets the bar high in challenging everyone to be the healthiest they can be. It further challenges the Health Region to strengthen the community's pride in the system so that patients and their families are assured of compassionate, safe, high quality care. The renewed mission, "We improve health through excellence and innovation in service, education and research, building on the strengths of our people and partnerships" clarifies the Region’s reason for being.
The new strategic plan also speaks to core values. The Health Region believes that its daily actions, interactions and decisions will reflect respect – recognizing that all people and their needs are important; compassion – caring genuinely for others; excellence – pursuing quality in all that it does; stewardship – demonstrating trust and integrity in its responsible use of resources; and collaboration – cultivating and honouring relationships to better serve its communities.
The strategic directions emphasize a need to transform the care and service experience for patients, clients and residents, putting individuals and their families at the centre of their care. The Health Region commits to transforming the work experience so that staff take pride in their work and feel valued. Gaps in health status will be addressed within our Health Region, with a particular focus on improving the health of our Aboriginal population. The strategic directions strongly embrace an environment that fosters research, learning and innovation. Ultimately, these directions demonstrate our collective commitment to ensure a sustainable and more integrated health care system for future generations.
"The collaborative and inclusive 10-month process that was used to gather input and feedback has enabled us to develop a plan we can be proud of that sets a framework for priority action and represents the will of our organization and our partners to move forward with our five key strategic directions," says Maura Davies, President and Chief Executive Officer. "By articulating a clear set of priorities for the future, and by working together, we are confident we will achieve our goals. A sincere thank you to all who helped us create and 'imagine' this plan and our future. We look forward to working with you to achieve our goals and, over time, attain our vision."
