(November 27, 2006), Saskatoon – Saskatoon's business, political, and other community leaders were today introduced to an important group of Saskatchewan's medical leaders: the Saskatoon Health Region and University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine’s team of unified department heads.
"Saskatoon Health Region and the College of Medicine work so closely together to provide the best possible health care services and education for our region and for the province," says Maura Davies, President and CEO of Saskatoon Health Region. "Having unified department heads means being able to take the integration of both our organizations to the next level, with the benefits being seen in the calibre of research, teaching and clinical practice in Saskatoon and area."
The partnership between Saskatoon Health Region and the College of Medicine works to ensure quality health care in the region and province.
"In keeping with the College of Medicine's mission to improve health through excellence in education, research and clinical care, the unified department heads provide these essential services through their leadership and experience," says Dr. William Albritton, Dean of the University of Saskatchewan's College of Medicine. "In addition, the unified department heads also give critical direction and support to many community-based faculty spread throughout the province."
The department heads have been recruited from local, national, and international talent pools and bring a wealth of experience in teaching, research and clinical practice to Saskatoon Health Region and the College of Medicine.
According to Dr. Olufemi Olatunbosun, Interim Chief of Staff, "This partnership makes it easier for more comprehensive and collaborative physician teams to develop throughout the health region, which will in turn help our physicians further contribute to fulfilling the region's vision of Healthiest people, healthiest communities, exceptional service."
