(July 7, 2008) Saskatoon – Three former employees of the Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) will be re-instated at Wynyard’s Golden Acres Care Home after an intensive and thorough mediation process. The successful mediation was made possible through extensive collaboration between members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), SHR management, staff and the three employees who filed grievances.
“This successful mediation lays the groundwork for us to successfully move forward in providing excellent care and exceptional service to the residents of Golden Acres,” said Lori Hinz, Director, Rural Health Operations for the region.
“SEIU is pleased with the mediation process and its outcome. We are also pleased to be moving forward with the region on providing quality service,” said Sean McElligott, SEIU representative local 333.
Saskatchewan Advanced Education Employment and Labour facilitated the mediation process at the request of the parties involved. It was initiated due to grievances filed after disciplinary action was taken by the region in 2006 surrounding an incident involving resident care at Golden Acres.
