(October 8, 2008) Saskatoon – The Fall… in motion kick off event was a huge success with 21,507 people from across Saskatoon Health Region registering their participation in the GINORMOUS Walk on Friday October 3. The weather was beautiful for walking and all types of physical activity. Over 350 children, adults and older adults participated in the GINORMOUS Walk by joining our community leaders and in motion ambassadors at River Landing for a walk along the beautiful Meewasin Trail.
Those who couldn’t make it to River Landing were encouraged to participate in their own school, worksite or community. Eighty one schools registered their students, with many planning events for their entire school community! In addition, worksites, community groups and families registered their activities for the GINORMOUS Walk. Participants on October 3rd were eligible to win an Elliptical Trainer from Flaman Fitness, while schools could win a DJ Dance party courtesy of Celebrated Sound.
Next year, in motion plans on not only beating our record, but challenging other in motion communities throughout the province and Canada to try and beat our record!
The GINORMOUS Walk was the kick off to the October “Get Moving” Challenge for the Saskatoon Health Region. Those who may not be very active are encouraged to “Get Moving” and make physical activity a daily part of their lives. Those who are already active are encouraged to check intensity levels and ensure that they are active enough to receive health benefits. Complete the Get Moving Activity Log available at City of Saskatoon Leisure Centres, YWCA and YMCA or download from www.in-motion.ca and send in to win more fabulous prizes.
In motion is a community based physical activity strategy that encourages all citizens to make physical activity a part of their daily lives.
