On August 19, 2008, Saskatoon Health Region welcomed its first wave of newly-recruited nurses from the Philippines at a lunch and media event at the Saskatoon Inn. Read the news release

Background Information
Saskatoon Health Region wants to recruit registered nurses, and 11 region employees are taking a trip to accomplish that.
“We have a large number of vacancies, and we also have a large number of our nursing staff who are in the older age group and are ready for retirement,” said Bonnie Blakley, SHR’s vice-president of human resources.
“We’ve clearly heard from nurses themselves and from our stakeholders, such as the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN), that we have to do something.”... Read more
