What is Workplace Excellence?
Workplace Excellence is a set of initiatives and resources to help achieve personal health, workplace health and financial health for everyone in Saskatoon Health Region - employees, managers, leaders, physicians and the people we serve.
This aligns with the Region's Healthy Workplace philosophy. These initiatives will also help Saskatoon Health Region meet the 2010-2011 Ministry of Health target to reduce annual sick time, overtime and Workers’ Compensation Board costs by $3.7 million.

Workplace Excellence Initiatives
There are currently five Workplace Excellence initiatives to help managers and employees identify opportunities, challenges and solutions to achieve these targets. These projects will help improve systems that no longer meet the needs of managers and staff and also focus on creating healthy people and healthy workplaces.
Sick Time Reduction: Attendance Strategy
This strategy will aim to reduce sick time while supporting managers to deal with culpable and non-culpable absenteeism.
Scheduling and Overtime
This project will identify and create strategies around high overtime drivers, use and rates of pay, and will evaluate and improve scheduling processes, reduce errors, and reduce the amount of paid non-work hours.
Working Safe: WCB Cost Reduction
This initiative will help employees return to the workplace on their next scheduled shift, when possible, following a time loss incident. This supports injury prevention and reduction of WCB claims and days.
Staff Forecasting and Vacancy Management
This initiative will improve forecasting of staffing needs and use technology to streamline processes and minimize time to fill vacancies.
Limiting the Hiring of Retirees
Effective April 1, this protocol prevents managers from re-hiring retirees unless it is approved by People Strategies’ Employment Services. This will help reduce sick time and overtime, allow new grads opportunities with the Region, and maintain ongoing health of the pension plan.
