Partners with families helping children
The Kinsmen Children’s Centre brings together several agencies.
Staff, students and volunteers work together with families and communities
to help children achieve their potential. The goal is to enhance
children’s mental, physical, emotional and social development.
Agencies include:
Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program
The Alvin Buckwold Child
Development Program serves children’s special health needs.
These can include physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities
and/or genetic metabolic disorders. Services are provided by a team
which may include:
- Clinical Dietitians
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Pediatric Occupational Therapists
- Pediatric Physical Therapists
- Psychologists
- Social Workers
- Speech-language Pathologists
- Therapy Attendants
The Department of Pediatrics, University of Saskatchewan and Saskatoon
Health Region fund the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program.
Children need a doctor’s referral for these services. For

Autism Early Childhood Therapy Program
The Autism Early Childhood Therapy Program provides intense early
intervention for preschool children who have a diagnosis of autism
or pervasive developmental disorder. It is operated by the Alvin
Buckwold Child Development Program in partnership with School Divisions
in the Saskatoon area.
Family Resource Room
The Family Resource
Room strives to support families by providing current information
on conditions, as well as the services and programs available to
help those with special needs and their families. For more information please call the family Resource Room at (306) 655-6871.
Early Childhood Intervention Programs
The Alvin Buckwold and Prairie Hillls Early
Childhood Intervention Programs help children and families in
the home. Early childhood intervention programs work with children
from birth to five years who are delayed in their development. They
are community-based agencies funded by the Department of Community
Resources and Employment (formerly the Department of Social Services).

Therapeutic Preschool
The Saskatoon Public School Division provides a Therapeutic Preschool for children
with special learning needs. This program is part of the Brunskill
School/Kinsmen Children’s Centre (KCC) and is offered in cooperation
with the Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program.

Prevention
The Saskatchewan Prevention Institute is a provincial
non-profit organization whose goal is to make people aware of steps
that can be taken to reduce the incidence of disabling conditions
in children. Five community and government agencies fund the Prevention

prevent disabilities and improve children’s development. We
