- Methadone
Assisted Recovery - These provincial guidelines
describe the role, services, and skills required of the addiction
counsellor, depending on her/his level of involvement with individuals
in Saskatchewan who have been prescribed methadone for opioid
dependency. Methadone is a prescription drug used to safely treat
opioid addiction for over forty years. Furthermore, methadone
assisted recovery can be an important harm reduction strategy
to prevent the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne pathogens,
while assisting those using opioids to reduce illicit use, needle
sharing and criminal activity associated with opioid use.
