Six week program, 8:30 a.m - 12:00 Noon OR 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Client-Centred: Clients are educated regarding goal setting, and then use this process to develop individual goals for treatment. Treatment programs are individualized and designed specifically to meet the needs of each client.
Evidence-based: The best practice guidelines for chronic pain management suggest that an intensive, interdisciplinary program focused on teaching skills and improving knowledge to manage pain independently is most effective. The CPC treatment program follows these guidelines.
Interdisciplinary: Treatment is delivered by a team including a physician, psychologist, registered nurse, and occupational and physical therapists, all with experience and training in the treatment of chronic pain.
Holistic: Because chronic pain impacts all facets of a client’s life, the aim of treatment is to provide multidimensional support for clients. Physical, emotional and social aspects are addressed by the various members of the interdisciplinary team.
The Chronic Pain Center team recognizes that attending a six week treatment program is a significant committment. The reason for this program model is based on research which shows:
- Interdisciplinary team approach is effective.
- Lower frequency or single-modality type treatment is not as effective.
- There is no cure currently available for the majority of causes of chronic pain. There is strong evidence showing that if clients can successfully use self-management strategies, they can continue to have the quality of life they want and can improve their physical and emotional functioning.
Outline of Education Classes
Significant time is spent educating clients to understand their pain and how it is impacted by environmental and emotional factors.
