Interdisciplinary Treatment Program
The CPC treatment program is a six week 1/2 day program in Saskatoon. The goal of CPC treatment is to teach clients skills to improve coping and self-management of pain. The program is evidence-based, client-centered and includes both experiential and educational components. The expected outcome of therapy is improvement in the ability to manage pain independently, decreased fear of movement and catastrophic thinking related to pain, improved mood, sleep and function. More appropriate use of medication and a decrease in medical vists are also expected as a result of treatment. Although the program requires a significant commitment from clients, evidence shows that less focused, uni-modal approaches for the treatment of chronic pain are not as effective.
Physicians who refer patients for treatment expect that their patients are better able to manage their pain, are more independent, and improve functionally. They should also observe that patients used their medication more appropriately allowing for more active engagement in their lives.
