The Medical Imaging Department is staffed by a variety of healthcare
professionals.
- Radiologists are doctors who have specialized
in performing X-Ray, Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Nuclear
Medicine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) assisted procedures
as well as interpreting X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, MRI and Nuclear
Medicine images. Radiologists have successfully completed their
medical training as well as a four or five year residency program
and completed Specialty Canadian National Exams. They may also
have completed their Specialty American Registry Exams.
- Residents are doctors who are in training to
become radiologists. Their training program consists of five years
following medical school. Upon completion of their training program
they will complete Specialty Canadian National Exams and may also
complete their Specialty American Registry Exams.
- Radiological Technologists are trained to perform
general x-ray procedures, CT scans and Angiography/Interventional
radiography depending on their level of sub-specialty. They assist
radiologists and residents in performing specialized x-ray procedures.
They have successfully completed a nationally accredited training
program and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
(CAMRT) Registry Exam in Radiography.
- Ultrasound Technologists are usually radiological
technologists who have completed a further year of training to
be able to perform ultrasound procedures. They have successfully
completed the Canadian Society of Medical Sonographers Registry
Exams in Ultrasound.
- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Technologists
are usually radiological technologists who have completed further
training in MRI. They have successfully completed the CAMRT National
Registry Exam in MRI.
- Nuclear Medicine Technologists are trained
to perform nuclear medicine procedures that require the use of
a radiopharmaceutical to produce images. They have successfully
completed a nationally accredited training program and the Canadian
Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Registry
Exam in Nuclear Medicine.
- Nurses assist doctors with x-ray procedures
and patient care in the Medical Imaging Department. The nurses
are registered with the Saskatchewan Nurses Association and have
successfully completed all licensing requirements.
- Support Staff includes Receptionists, Porters,
Filing Clerks, and Transcriptionists.
- Receptionists book procedures into the
Medical Imaging System database and provide prep instructions
to physicians and patients.
- Porters transport patients to and from
the Medical Imaging Department.
- Filing Clerks file x-rays and reports,
assist physicians in obtaining reports.
- Transcriptionists type reports as dictated
by Radiologists and Residents.
