About the PHO
"Evidence, Action, Equity:Making Population Health Information Count"
In March of 2008, the Population Health Surveillance department, Public Health Services and the Population Health Research Unit of the Office of the Chief Medical Health Officer, joined together to form Saskatoon Health Region’s Public Health Observatory.
What is the Public Health Observatory (PHO)?
The Saskatoon Health Region PHO is designed to provide important, understandable health information; bringing data and research into decision-making and public health practice – essentially "better information, better decisions, better health."
What does the PHO do?
In partnership, we aim to improve health and reduce health inequality through surveillance, research, and knowledge transfer to inform policy, decision-making and service delivery. We ensure the dissemination of evidence-based findings to support decision-making and influence practice efforts to improve health and address health disparities within the Saskatoon Health Region.
The main responsibilities of the PHO are:
- Population health status surveillance, monitoring and reporting
- Program evaluation and review
- Applied research
- Knowledge translation and exchange
The supports that enable these functions include:
