Selection of Successful Applicants
A selection committee, comprised of representatives from Saskatoon Health Region staff and the community, reviews all eligible applications and makes recommendations about amounts and the allocation of grants. All final decisions are at the discretion of the Saskatoon Health Region.
All eligible applications are assessed and scored by committee members. Applications whose average score falls below a pre-determined cut-off may not be reviewed by the committee. If this is the case, detailed feedback may not be provided to unsuccessful applicants.
Those who decided to resubmit their application in the next competition are encouraged to review and revise their application based on the items listed below. Resubmitted applications are not given priority – they are rated and ranked against all other eligible applications received for that competition.
Common reasons applications score below the cut-off include:
- vague or poor description of what the project intends to accomplish; not enough details on the project plan
(e.g. who will be undertaking the activity, what they will be doing and when they will be doing it)
- vague timelines for the project (e.g. no specific timelines included)
- missing or vague budget information (e.g. honoraria that does not include hourly cost and an estimate of how many hours for the activity)
- no breakdown of specific budget items (e.g. resource materials that includes no detail on what the materials are and estimated costs of each)
- vague evaluation plan (e.g. no description of what measures may be used, how the data will be collected, what types of data will be collected).
Factors that make an application ineligible include:
- missing signatures
- missing or incorrect signatures on the budget page (signing authority)
- budget requested exceeds the amount available for that particular Grant, and
- applications received after the deadline.
Ineligible applications are not reviewed by committee members. As with applications whose scores fall below the cut-off for funding, those who decided to resubmit their application in the next competition are encouraged to review and revise their application based on the items listed above for ineligibility as well as the reasons why applications score below the cut-off point.
Resubmitted applications are not given priority – they are rated and ranked against all other eligible applications received for that competition.
