- community-based board that is elected or appointed
- non-government organization
- non-profit organization
- local service club
- community association or coalitions
Saskatoon Health Region programs/departments are not eligible to apply for grant funds. As well, projects that provide services that are considered part of Saskatoon Health Region core programming are not eligible for funding.
Please note: school boards, recreational councils and municipalities are no longer eligible for health and wellness grants.
We encourage community groups considering applying for a health grant to consider partnering with an SHR program/department.

Proposed projects must explain how they are responding to recognized community needs. Applicants must provide background information supporting this demonstrated need in their application.
Projects must take place within the Saskatoon Health Region, and will reflect Saskatoon Health Region’s Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Directions (see page 12 of the guidelines). If you are unsure if the location of your project falls within the boundaries of Saskatoon Health Region, contact our office at (306) 682-8190 and we can check for you.
Grant funds may not be used for projects where the primary goal is direct revenue generation.
Community groups may apply for only one grant per each funding intake. For example, you cannot apply in two different grant categories with the same project or two different projects for one type of grant.
We do not fund research projects.
Partnerships
Partnerships are encouraged for the Community Grants Program. Partnering with organizations that offer similar or complimentary services is one way to maximize benefits to the community, leverage resources and increase access to a target audience. The Selection Committee defines partnerships as a relationship that consists of shared objectives and a sharing of specifically defined roles, responsibilities and activities between participants. Each partner actively participates in the delivery of the services that are proposed within the grant.
Three (3) key elements are needed:
- the partnership has time to develop and nurture the project application
- each of the partners have well-defined objectives, roles and realistic expectations
- there are clear lines of responsibility and accountability for each of the partners.
If you are partnering with one or more organization(s), please fill out the form in the application indicating the partner's role and contact information.
