What Do I Need To Do To Prepare?
Wear comfortable clothing, with minimal snaps and zippers as these
articles will need to be removed. CT examinations may be performed
during the day or evening, please check your appointment times carefully.
Abdomen And Pelvis CT
- Diabetic patients may have juice up to one hour before the
appointment time if necessary to regulate their diabetes.
- Continue all medications as usual.
- Due to unforeseen emergencies, your CT scan may be delayed.
If Your Abdomen/Pelvis CT is at Saskatoon City Hospital
or St. Paul’s Hospital
- Nothing to eat after midnight, but you may have clear fluids
up to four hours prior to your appointment time.
- You may be given a package of oral contrast media (x-ray dye)
by the Cancer Centre, or you may be instructed to pick up a package
at Saskatoon City Hospital or St. Paul’s Hospital. If you
live outside of Saskatoon the CT Booking office may mail your
contrast media to you.
- If your appointment is before noon, take your oral contrast
media before bed. If you have an afternoon appointment take the
oral contrast media four hours before your appointment time.
- Arrive in the Admitting Department one hour prior to your
appointment time.
- Due to unforeseen emergencies, your CT scan may be delayed.
If Your Abdomen/Pelvis CT is at Royal University Hospital
- Nothing to eat or drink for four hours prior to your appointment
time.
- You will be given oral contrast media to drink when you arrive
at the CT Department.
- Arrive in the Admitting Department one hour prior to your
appointment time.
- Due to unforeseen emergencies, your CT scan may be delayed.
If for any reason you are unable to make your appointment,
please call Royal University Hospital at (306) 655-2399 or Saskatoon
City Hospital or St. Paul's Hospital at (306) 655-8468 as soon as
possible so that another patient can be called in to fill your spot.
