Patient Preparation
The patient must have:
- Nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the test.
- No antibiotics or medications containing Bismuth (e.g. Pepto-Bismol)
for 4 weeks prior to the test.
- No Prevacid, Losec, Losec 1-2-3 , Prilosec, Pantoloc, Levsin
Sulfate, Carafate, or Nexium for 2 weeks prior to the test.
Exam Procedure
The patient will be asked to swallow a small capsule
containing a radioactive tracer. After 10 minutes, they will be
asked to inflate a balloon for a breath sample.
