Patient Preparation
The patient must be off ALL ACE-inhibitor
drugs for at least 5 days prior to the test. The patient must also
be well hydrated prior to the test.
Exam Procedure
This is a two-day
procedure.
Day 1 (Baseline): The patient will have an intravenous
line inserted into a vein in their arm. A radioactive tracer will
be injected through the I.V. and images of the kidneys will be
taken during the injection and will continue for 30 minutes. A
blood sample will be drawn 45 minutes after the initial injection.
Day 2 (Captopril): The patient is administered
25mg of Captopril one hour prior to imaging. The same protocol
is then followed as for the baseline study.
