Patient Preparation
None. Avoid the presence of barium
in the abdomen.
Exam Procedure
A sample of blood will be taken from a vein in the
patient's arm, and will be labeled with a radioactive tracer. Approximately
30 minutes later, the blood will be re-injected into the patient’s
vein. Images of the abdomen will be taken immediately following the
injection and again 90 - 120 minutes after the injection. The patient
is free to leave the department between the first and second sets
of images.
