Patient Preparation
The patient must be well-hydrated
prior to the test.
Exam Procedure
The patient
will have an intravenous line inserted into a vein in their arm.
A radioactive tracer will be injected through the I.V. and images
of the kidneys will be taken during the injection and will continue
for 30 minutes. A blood sample may be drawn 45 minutes to 4 hours
after the initial injection. The patient may eat and drink in between
the blood sample times. Renal imaging may also include pharmacologic
intervention with Lasix (Furosemide) administration and additional
imaging for up to 30 minutes.
