How Do I Prepare for an X-ray?
Plain x-rays of the chest, abdomen, arms, legs and spine require
no preparation and generally take only a few minutes to complete.
However, street clothes and jewellery must be removed from the
area of interest as they can interfere and cover the anatomy.
Please report to the Admitting Department 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled appointment time.
Arthrogram
An injection of contrast media
(x-ray dye) into the synovial capsule which surrounds a joint.
It yields information about supporting ligaments, cartilage, joint
linings and the presence and location of loose bodies. This procedure
may also be performed to locate a needle during an aspiration procedure.
This test is done using sterile technique. Commonly performed on
wrists, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees.
- Time to perform - 30 minutes per joint.
- Preparation - There is no preparation for
this procedure.
