How Do I Prepare for an X-ray?
Plain x-rays of the chest, abdomen, arms, legs and spine require
no preparation and generally take only a few minutes to complete.
However, street clothes and jewellery must be removed from the
area of interest as they can interfere and cover the anatomy.
Please report to the Admitting Department 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled appointment time.
Barium Enema
Barium is introduced into the
large bowel through the rectum to outline the mucosal pattern.
Air may be used with the barium to better visualize the bowel.
This procedure demonstrates mucosal surfaces, tonus of the colon
and lumen.
- Time to perform – 45 to 60 minutes.
