How Do I Prepare for an X-ray?
Plain x-rays of the chest, abdomen, arms, legs and spine require
no preparation and generally take only a few minutes to complete.
However, street clothes and jewellery must be removed from the
area of interest as they can interfere and cover the anatomy.
Please report to the Admitting Department 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled appointment time.
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreato-gram (ERCP)
This
procedure demonstrates the anatomy of the biliary system for gallstones,
and narrowing of the ducts due to other conditions. A gastroenterologist
or surgeon inserts an endoscope (fibre-optic tube) through the
mouth, esophagus and stomach and into the duodenum (1st part of
the small bowel). A smaller tube from the endoscope is inserted
into the common bile duct or the pancreatic duct and x-ray dye
injected into the ducts to demonstrate abnormalities. Mild sedation
is used.
