How Do I Prepare for an X-ray?
Plain x-rays of the chest, abdomen, arms, legs and spine require
no preparation and generally take only a few minutes to complete.
However, street clothes and jewellery must be removed from the
area of interest as they can interfere and cover the anatomy.
Please report to the Admitting Department 30 minutes prior to your
scheduled appointment time.
Esophagram
The patient drinks barium and
gas pills (similar to Alka-Seltzer or Eno) to demonstrate swallowing,
obstruction (blockage), reflux (causes heartburn) and other conditions.
Barium is a white chalky-tasting thick liquid which shows up
on x-rays.
- Time to perform - 30 minutes
- Preparation - You should have nothing to
eat or drink from midnight prior to your test.
