Coaching Skills for Leaders

Overview

The abridged version of this module will explore the leadership style of coaching which is instrumental for the Patient First Management System.  Coaching builds people's capacity to solve problems and discover innovative ways to move forward.  We will compare coaching with other leadership approaches and examine when the coaching style is most appropriate (and when it's not). The module will also provide three foundational pillars for coaching – i.e., the skills necessary, the guiding principles to follow, and a process map for an effective coaching conversation. Participants will be required to complete six 90-minute practicums to embed their learning.

Learning Objectives

  • Learners will gain an understanding of six different styles of leadership and when coaching is the most appropriate style for leading.
  • Learners will gain skills in using the coaching leadership style.
  • Learners will gain an understanding of how to apply a coaching leadership style to everyday work, and improvement efforts.
  • Learners will gain comfort in leading a coaching conversation.
