Lead Self


This module will explore the key factors that support the four capabilities of leading self: A leader (1) is self-aware, (2) manages self, (3) develops self, and (4) demonstrates character.

The underlying assumption is that leading teams and leading change starts with leading one’s self, and that effective personal leadership is associated with a set of definable skill sets or capabilities that can be learned by conscious and intentional effort. Emotional intelligence is one of the core concepts that is present in all four of the Lead Self capabilities; this term describes the intra- and inter-personal aspects of intelligence and self-leadership, including: attitude, motivation, trust, influence, interpersonal communication, self-control, and problem-solving. This session will be an introduction to the key leadership activities that support leading self in a patient first management system.

Participants can also be introduced to a 360 Feedback Assessment process prior to or following this workshop, which will help inform the participant's learning and development plans.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will gain an understanding of how understanding our thinking, beliefs, perceptions, assumptions, can influence our emotions and drive our decision making and actions.
  • Participants will acquire a deepened self-awareness in order to challenge their own assumptions, explore judging and learning mindsets.
  • Participants will explore leadership styles, including values-based leadership, servant leadership, and develop their own approach to their leadership practice.
  • Participants will further craft their personal Learning Plan and begin to seek feedforward to enhance self-awareness and self-mastery.
