About the Region
Lean Management

What is Lean?

Lean is a patient centred approach to continuously improving the care and services we provide and we are working with patients, families and our employees to make it happen. Saskatoon Health Region is committed to using lean methods and processes to eliminate waste, eliminate defects or errors and improve safety for patients and employees.

Lean by the numbers

As of November 2013, the Region has completed over 50 Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIWs) with over 256 employees, 34 patients and 51 physicians participating and providing their expertise. We've reduced storage space and reduced our overall inventory by over 20,000 items. We've reduced patient and health care provider walking distances and have avoided future costs by over $75,000. We're proud of the improvements we're making and are well on our way to making even more!
