Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
What to Expect: Emergency

The other route to access our catheterization lab is if you are having chest pain and are referred to us directly from within a hospital. This would be someone already in the hospital, or someone arriving to our emergency department as an urgent case. Our on-call cardiologist would then prioritize you for our lab, and you would be done as soon as possible.

If your cardiologist determines that you would benefit from the immediate placement of a stent, we would proceed on and do this while you are in our lab. When this procedure is completed, you would be required to go to our Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for observation and monitoring. After our porter and nurses have you settled in your room, your family will be able to visit you.
