Acute Care Pediatrics - Your child's meals, treats and bedtime

​Meals and Treats

Your child or teenager will be served meals appropriate for his/her care needs.

Meals are served at the following times:

  • Breakfast: 8:00am
  • Lunch: 11:30am
  • Supper: 4:40 pm

Please do not feed your children snacks close to meal times. No peanuts, popcorn or gum is allowed. They may cause chocking.

Please check with your nurse before provide any treats to your child or teenager. He or she may be on a special diet or be fasting for a test or operation.

Bedtime and Rest Periods

The following are the bed times on the unit to help ensure your child or teenager receives the rest they need.

 

  • Under 4 years: between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. depending on the infant's feeding schedule and care.
  • 4 - 5 years: 8:00 p.m.
  • 6 - 12 years: 9:00 p.m.
  • 13-14 years: 9:30 p.m.
  • 15 - 16 years: 10:30 p.m.

Bedtime is half an hour later on Friday and Saturday nights. Late movies need to be discussed with your nurse.

Between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m. is the rest time for the unit. Children are to be put to bed for a rest period after lunch. Rest is key to healing. Please do not have visitors come during this time. The Playroom and Teen Lounge are closed during this rest period.
