Arriving at hospital - Maternal Registration

Maternal Registration

If you are greater than 16 weeks pregnant, go directly to 4th Floor of the 1955 Building to register.

You do NOT register at Admitting in the main floor mall at Royal University Hospital. You can ask for directions to maternal registration at the Information Desk if you are walking in from the parkade. (Click here for a map.)

On the 4th floor of the 1955 Building, you will register for:

  • labour assessment
  • antepartum (where pregnant women suffering complications and require hospital care stay)
  • labour and delivery (Birthing Unit)
  • elective caesarean section
  • fetal assessment (booked appointments for ultrasounds, non-stress tests, etc.)

You can enter the front doors to the 1955 building 24/7. These doors will give you direct access the elevators up to 4th floor and maternal registration. After 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. daily, the doors are locked BUT pregnant women can press the buzzer inside the first set of doors. Security will talk with you and allow you access to the building.

What to bring to registration

Bring your Saskatchewan health care card along with your prenatal record. Your doctor or midwife will provide you a copy of your prenatal record prior to your due date.

Preferred Accommodations

At registration, you can identify your preferred accommodation on the Maternal and Newborn Care Unit. This will be where you will stay after your baby's delivery. There are standard ward rooms available at no charge. We do have other accommodation options, if these are available at the time of your delivery. Please be aware, though, during your stay in a preferred accommodation you may be relocated to another room to accommodate a patient with unique medical needs.

See the RUH Patient Accommodations page for more information including the 'Agreement to Pay for Preferred Accommodations" form. If you are requesting accommodations, please bring this form when you register. Saskatoon Health Region will direct bill your insurer for preferred accommodation charges.
