​Collection Procedure
  • Refer to CSF Collection Guidelines for order of draw instructions

  • Tubes provided in the Lumbar Puncture Tray (CSF Collection Kit) are pre-numbered (1 to 4) indicating the order sample tubes are drawn during collection. IF alternate collection container is used, tubes MUST be numbered with the order sample tubes are drawn.

​Required Volume
  • Optimal Volume: 3 mL
    (Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
​Stability/Storage
  • Hand deliver to laboratory within 15 minutes of collection
  • Stable at room temperature
  • Do NOT refrigerate or freeze
  • Specimen must be received in laboratory within 24 hours of collection
