​Specimen Requirements​

  • unpreserved liquid or soft (defined as stool assuming shape of its container)
​Required Volume
  • Optimal Volume: 5 mL 
  • Minimum Volume: 1mL (submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing in some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection)
  • Transport to laboratory within one hour of collection
  • Store at 4°C  up to 72 hours; transport on cold pack
  • > 72 hours, freeze at -10°C or colder; transport on dry ice

​Reflux testing
  • If results are deemed “Indeterminate” with Clostridioides difficile Quik Chek Complete® methodology, the specimen shall be ordered by the laboratory for Molecular confirmatory testing using GeneXpert technology
