​Ordering Recommendation

  • If JAK-2 and bcr-abl are both requested, two tubes of peripheral blood are sufficient for both tests

​ ​Specimen Requirements

  • ​Whole blood
  • Bone marrow aspirate
​Collection Procedure
  • ​Invert several times to mix
  • Specimens should be transported to Royal University Hospital, Human Molecular Genetics without unnecessary delay
​Required Volume
  • ​Optimal Volume: 4.0 ml
  • Minimum Volume: 1.0 ml
  • ​Ship specimens at ambient temperature
  • Specimens may be stored at 2 - 8°C

Testing Information​ ​

  • ​STAT testing can be requested but is only available Monday to Friday

Results Reporting​
  • ​Results are generally available within 14 working days
  • STAT results are generally available within 3 working days
  • ​Qualitative fluorescent allelic discrimination assay by real time PCR
​Clinical Interpretation
  • ​Presence or absence of the JAK2 V617F mutation
​Specimen Retention
  • ​Peripheral blood retained for 14 days
  • Extracted DNA stored for 2 years
